What does a free roof measurement include?

Orbit's free roof measurement gives the total roof area in square feet, the number of roofing squares, the squares to order with 10% waste added, the main pitch, and how many roof planes the roof has. It reads those from Google's Solar roof model, which maps each plane of a roof from aerial imagery.

It does not include ridge, hip, valley, eave or rake lengths, the figures that price starter, ridge cap, drip edge and valley metal. Those come from Orbit's full roof report.

How accurate is a satellite roof measurement?

A satellite roof measurement is usually close on a simple detached house and less reliable on attached homes, deep overhangs, new construction and complicated roofs. Treat the free figure as an estimate to check before ordering material, not a guarantee.

The tool refuses an address when the building Google finds isn't at that address, rather than measuring the neighbour's roof. The guide to satellite roof measurements covers where they go wrong.

What does a full roof report cost?

Orbit's instant roof report costs $2.37 and adds the edge lengths and a facet-by-facet breakdown. A human-certified report, checked by a person, costs $15.76 on a paid plan. Tracing a roof yourself on satellite imagery is free and unlimited on every Orbit plan, including the free one.
